Hello everyone :D Still with me in the second journal of "Podcast Effect on EFL Learners Listening Comprehension" So,after the literature review, now we will discuss about the research method. Let's check this out !
B. Research Method
Quan-qual is the method that used in this research to
identify the impact of podcasts. This mixed method design serves to combine the
quantitative and qualitative approaches and create reinforcement between
quantitative and qualitative data. Through this approach, the researchers
explained that we can more understand a phenomenon completely. The quantitative
data were collecting first and more heavily weight than the qualitative data
Gay, Mills & Airasian (2012). The quantitative approach did by using the
quasi-experimental pretest-posttest design. While the qualitative approach
using a questionnaire open-ended questions. Participants in this study were
students IX grade of SMA Negeri 1 Luwu on 2017/2018. The first science class
have a role as an experimental group while in the third science class as a
control group that considering a combination of cluster random sampling and
purposive sampling technique.
There are two types of instruments used to collect
data, namely tests of listening comprehension and open-ended questions. The
listening comprehension test is directly selected from the 2017 English
National Examination published by the National Education Standards Agency
(BSNP). This test consists of fifteen multiple choice questions that must be
completed in thirty minutes. The contents of the test are about dialogue,
incomplete dialogue, and a monologue which is divided into four parts. During
the test, students listen to dialogue, incomplete dialogue, and several
monologues and questions spoken in English. Each question will be spoken twice
and after they listen, they must choose five possible answers. Then, students
are asked to decide which will be the best answer. Open-ended questions consist
of six questions about podcasts in teaching listening.
Pre-tests is to determine the achievement of previous
listening comprehension from the experimental group and the control group.
Furthermore, the experimental group is taught to apply the podcast material
that categorized into A2, B1, and B2.
This particular level of listening proficiency purely based on the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) level descriptors for overall listening comprehension. Students in A2, B1, and B2 are expected to be able to identify, understand the general messages, get the main points or specific information about daily activities, narratives spoken in the form of dialogue and monologues (Council of Europe, 2001). While the control group is taught using a textbook.

Then, a post-test is to identify the development of
listening comprehension after the group received a different report. Finally,
open-ended questions are given only to the students in the experimental group
to explore their interest in podcasts.
There are several stages to analyzing quantitative data :
1. A data was assessed using the formula proposed by Asrul, Ananda & Rosnita, (2014).
2. Classified it into scales to measure listening achievement as mentioned by Carrol & West (1989)
3. SPSS (statistics) 23 version, used to determine the average score, standard deviation, frequency, percentage of student scores and hypotheses.

In my opinion, the contents of this journal are very
good and complete because they put a several theories and opinions from
experts. This journal gives a lot of new
knowledge to readers, especially me. Then, the techniques and methods used are
different from other researchers and i like it. However, this journal has a
lack. The researcher are less able to convey the content briefly and easy to
understand. There are several repetitions of words or sentences that make the
reader confused. To read this journal, it takes 2 or 3 repetitions so that we
can understand clearly. But, this journal is very good and recommend to read
especially for the teacher who wants a new methods or technique in teaching
listening.
