Naming Traditions

Assalamualaikum wr wb...

Every country has their own uniqueness right? There was so many various kinds of culture and traditions. For the example, giving the name. In every family, they usually give the surname to their generation. A surname is a part of their cultural identity. Many cultures have different customs for how names are passed from generation to generation. So in this article, i will share about the naming traditions in 5 country. Let's check this out.

1. Indonesia (Bali)
Balinese children are named according to birth order. First born are named as Wayan and Putu.
Made or Kadek for a second born baby. The third born named as Nyoman or Komang and the fourth is Ketut. All of the names above can be for either boys or girls.

2. Korea
Korean names are written with the family name first. It usually consists of one syllable and the given name is usually two syllables. For the example,if "Sunghee" has the family name “Han” his name will be written Han Sunghee.

3. China
Chinese are made up of three characters. A one-character family name followed by a two-character given name. The child’s official name is used for the birth certificate and for school.  Chinese children often have a different name that is used among friends, schoolmates, and colleagues.

4. Japan
Japanese people are usually named on the seventh day after birth. Girls are given names that are associated with virtues, while boys are given names that have to do with their position in the family.

5. Spain and Latin America.
When a child is born, they receive two surnames, the first from the first surname of the father and the second from the first surname of the mother. This naming tradition makes it possible for the mother to never lose her maiden surname and therefore her name is carried on to the next generation. For example,Teodoro Lopez Corazones + Maria Andujo Melandez = Pedro Lopez Andujo. After marriage, spanish surnames do not change. Both the bride and groom keep their birth names. It is socially acceptable, however, to refer to the wife as ‘Senora de’ (meaning ‘wife of’) and the husband’s last name.

So unique,isn't it?
I hope these information can inspire you to add more names to your list. See you next time. Thank you !
